In this case, though, more data isn’t necessarily better. Klon noted the strong-handed methods reported used by the Chinese government to obtain that data make it subject to bias, which could lead to ill-trained military AI models.</p><p class=„sc-77igqf-0 fnnahv“>Klon contrasted that approach to US tech firms’ recent practice of scraping the open internet for public data to train large language models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, offering a better method for gathering large swaths of data. Human rights groups like the Stop Killer Robots Campaign and Human Rights Watch have spent years urging governments around the world to <a class=„sc-1out364-0 dPMosf sc-145m8ut-0 jCErAQ js_link“ data-ga=„1}“ href=„https://gizmodo.com/ai-military-weapons-reaim-summit-human-rights-1850128562“>put in place restrictions or sign formal treaties</a> banning these systems or limiting their use over fears they could pose an existential risk to humanity.</p><p class=„sc-77igqf-0 fnnahv“>Nations, <a class=„sc-1out364-0 dPMosf sc-145m8ut-0 jCErAQ js_link“ data-ga=„1}“ href=„https://gizmodo.com/u-s-opposes-autonomous-weapons-ban-cites-what-about-c-1848158811“>including the US</a>, don’t seem all that interested in committing to those de-escalation efforts.
